Type 1 Gynecomastia - Puffy Nipples

Definition

Breast tissue: Located primarily beneath nipple/areola

Nipple position: At or above pectoralis

Chest fold shape: Tight skin, straight chest fold with no rounding

Most common demographic: 15 - 25, teenagers and bodybuilders

Type 1 Gynecomastia is most commonly seen in adolescents, thin young men, and bodybuilders. Teenagers are often the hardest hit. Emotional problems go much further than other imperfections like obesity, pimples, bad hair, etc. It brings together the whole question of masculinity. Bodybuilders are an extraordinary subset. They typically have greater self - esteem with increased frustration with a "self - inflicted" problem and the results they are trying to achieve are ruined.

Type 1 surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia and the results are predictably excellent due to the tight skin and lean body type of the patient. Incisions are limited to the areola, which quickly fades away and can not be noticed.

Anesthesia: Typically performed under local anesthesia in the office, however, general anesthesia is available as well.  

Cost: Average cost under local anesthesia is $6,500. The cost will vary if combined with other procedures or performed under general anesthesia. 

Recovery: 2 days for sedentary work, 4-6 weeks if a job requires heavy labor
